Scope

LightPlanet supplies state of the art fitness centre in Oxfordshire.

The Phyliss Court Fitness Centre opened in Autumn 2018, a purpose-built facility from the ground up, with a contemporary design and a clean, simple finish. The LightPlanet design and specification was chosen for the supply of new LED fittings for all the internal spaces.

Challenges

The project was finished with plasterboard ceilings throughout, this meant that all fittings, including those in the fitness suites, either had to surface-mounted or recessed. In most areas, the client was keen to avoid surface fittings in both standard and emergency, firstly to maintain the clean lines of the build and secondly to avoid any intrusion into the space and obstruction of any high-level equipment.

LightPlanet Solution

The LightPlanet design focused on achieving the correct lux levels and uniformity without compromising on product type or finish. We wanted to avoid changing from a 600×600 panel to a more commonly recessed fitting, such as a downlight, for large open areas, such as the fitness suites. We also wanted to keep to the client spec in the changing rooms, where we could not use standalone emergency fittings which were either surface or recessed. For the final install, all 600×600 panels were recessed flush into the plasterboard, using a recess frame and we supplied a bespoke compact Li-ion battery pack to convert the small diameter downlights in the changing rooms to integral 3hr emergency.
