Campus Floodlights

University of Winchester

University of Winchester was concerned about the energy consumption and environmental impact of their existing 50W MR16 track light system in their art gallery and contacted Light Planet to see whether an LED solution could be installed in its place. The existing 50W halogens emitted a high degree of heat but, of more concern to the university, was the damage caused to the artwork by the high output of ultraviolet rays from the halogens.

Light Planet's Quasar LED track lights offered a very straightforward solution that overcame all of the university's concerns. With 90 MR16 50W halogen track lights replaced by the 7W LED Quasar track lights, the 80% energy saving has made a significant impact on the running costs of the gallery. In addition, the low heat output and zero UV emission of the LED Quasar has also proven to offer a very aesthetically pleasing and perfect throw of light onto the artwork.

Following the success of this project, University of Winchester also introduced Light Planet's external 24W Spectra II LED floodlights to the campus, which replaced out-dated, 300W halogen floodlights. The 50,000 hour life of the Spectra IIs along with the 92% energy saving have been a significant influence on the university's decision to continue to look at other LED migration options including our LED "2D" luminaire replacements, MR16 7W LED replacements for 50W halogen spotlights, and LED linear surface mount replacements for T8 Fluorescents.
